Freeski Halfpipe Freestyle Canada
Andrew Longino
Tell us about you! Why and how did you get into your sport?
My name is Andrew Longino and I'm a freeskier from Calgary. My parents put me into a jumps and bumps group at Canada Olympic Park when I was young and they used to drop me off at the ski hill after school as much as possible.
What's a fun fact about you?
I really love playing music, I have been playing the guitar and singing since I was young.
What are your goals and aspirations?
I just hope to be the best athlete I possibly can, my dream would be to make a living travelling the world and doing what I love.
What has been your biggest challenge throughout your career? How did you overcome it?
My biggest challenge was probably when I broke my back when I was 13. I had a stress fracture at L4 in two spots as a result of skiing and a car accident and I ended up in a back brace for four months.
Injury is a part of life and sport - how did you deal with yours?
When I injured my back, I was unable to do any physical activity and my mental health took a toll as I was told there was a chance I wouldn't be able to go back to skiing at the same level. I made an effort to try to keep my spirits up during rehab even when it felt like I was getting nowhere. Lucky for me I was able to recover!
What gets you the most excited about Stoko?
I'm excited to be a part of Stoko because I like the product and I think they're a new, exciting company that's innovating in this space!
Do you have any pre-competition rituals?
I typically like to drink a healthy amount of coffee and listen to music before a contest. Then, when it's time to drop in for my runs, I like to take out my music to get in the zone.
Favourite snack before/after a sweat session?
Bananas, always.
