Mogul Skier Freestyle Canada
Brenden Kelly
Tell us about you! Why and how did you get into your sport?
My name is Brenden Kelly and I’m from Pemberton, BC. I got into it because in whistler it’s cheaper to put your kids in ski school than preschool. But really I grew up in a ski town and always loved watching the ski movies each year. I just love skiing.
What's a fun fact about you?
Oof, I play piano and love lots of different forms of art. I think my skiing is an art form and I try and appreciate all of them.
What are your goals and aspirations?
Olympic. Medal.
What has been your biggest challenge throughout your career? How did you overcome it?
I always felt like I was good but never amazing. I look back and see how much better I was than the kids around me but I would always finish 3rd or 4th at the big national events. It took me a while to realize that I could be winning these events and I think that’s one thing I would want to tell my younger self. Make more mistakes.
Injury is a part of life and sport - how did you deal with yours?
I injured my back a few years ago and still deal with it to this day. I did a lot of pilates and core for about 5 months straight and now I still do the core every day.
What gets you the most excited about Stoko?
I really enjoy the response of the tights while skiing. They make me feel solid and strong.
Do you have any pre-competition rituals?
Nah not really. I have my focus words at the top of my run but I don’t listen to music or eat anything specific.
Favourite snack before/after a sweat session?
Gatorade blue
